It’s that time of year again: Tuesday marks the opening of The Conference 2014 at the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel. Here at Brief we’ve already given you a taste of what to expect over the next three days, from what to see if you’re a designer, to the TEN Exhibition art auction benefitting Promo Pathway, to sessions highlighting the best design, promo, and rebranding work of the past year. But on top of all that, here’s our cheat sheet of the seven things not to miss at The Conference this year:
1. Tom Freston and Shane Smith’s Keynote
The former Viacom boss has already told Brief he thinks there is “no doubt” we’re living in the Golden Age of television. He and his partner in Vice—VICE Media co-founder Shane Smith, that is—get things stated on Thursday with a keynote address that is sure to live up to the theme of “Mayhem Matters.” Meet the men with a knack for empowering youth and learn their points of view on our expanding media landscape.
Tuesday, 4:15pm, Grand Ballroom, 3rd Floor
2. Robert Rodriguez celebrates Rebelrey
The founder and chairman of El Rey Network shares his thoughts Wednesday on breaking creative convention and the important role that marketing plays in delivering audiences for badass content. And in case you missed it, Rodriguez spoke with Brief a few days ago about starting his new network, his creative process, and his advice for up-and-coming artists.
Wednesday, 5:15pm, Grand Ballroom, 3rd Floor
3. Opening Night Party at the Museum of Modern Art
Celebrate the start of PromaxBDA: The Conference 2014 with exclusive after hours access to the Museum of Modern Art. The opening night party, sponsored by Fox and featuring their upcoming fall drama “Gotham,” will include a hosted bar, and food re-imagined by Pinch. Museum docents will also be available.
Tuesday, 8:00pm-10:00pm, 11 West 53rd Street. Conference Badge Required.
4. 2014 PromaxBDA Promotion, Marketing, and Design Awards
The night that everyone has been waiting for. Join us in the Grand Ballroom for the night honoring the creativity and achievement of the international promotion, marketing, and design communities. Hosted by actor and comedian Jeff Leach—called “the U.K.‘s most reveal and fearless new face of stand-up"—the PromaxBDA Awards honor the teams that are finding new and innovative ways to reach audiences in an increasingly crowded media landscape. In case you missed it, you can check out Brief’s coverage of the finalists for the Global Excellence and North America awards.

Attendees can play the “Find Your 2C: Watch & Win Giveaway” for their chance to win one of nine cool Sony QX10 cameras for their smartphones. To enter, participants are asked to find the two secret “C” words in 2C’s demo reel at either the registration desk or 2C’s kiosk, and then email their answer and contact details to findyour2c@2cmedia.com.
