Starz will premiere lush global series The Luminaries on Sunday, Feb. 14, the premium cable network said Tuesday, following the debut of travel log Men in Kilts: A Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.

Based on the Booker Prize-winning novel by Eleanor Catton, The Luminaries is a 19th-century tale of adventure, love, murder and revenge set on New Zealand’s South Island during the 1860s gold rush. The series stars Eve Hewson as Anna Wetherell, who is sailing from Britain to New Zealand to start a new life. While on the ship, she meets Emery Staines (Himesh Patel) and they begin to fall in love.

As Anna starts her new life, she also meets fortune teller Lydia Wells (Eva Green) and her husband Crosbie (Ewen Leslie), and everything is not what it seems with the couple. Soon Anna is drawn into a series of events she cannot escape.

The Luminaries is a global co-production of the BBC, Fremantle, Silver Reel, Southern Lights Film and Working Title Television. It’s executive produced by Catton, Andrew Woodhead, Tim Veban, Eric Fellner, Mona Qureshi, Christian Vesper, Claudia Bluemhuber and Tim White. Claire McCarthy is director and executive producer. Fremantle is distributing the series globally.
