David Fincher, the director of Gone Girl and Zodiac gets inside the heads of serial killers in Netflix’s Mindhunter.

The 1979-set series follows two FBI agents who discover a way to study psychopaths and set out on what the streaming service calls “a sinister investigative odyssey to discover the brutal answers.”

As a murderer at the beginning of the trailer puts it, “It’s not easy butchering people. It’s hard work.”

The series is directed by Fincher, Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), Tobias Lindholm (A War, A Hijacking) and Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror, U Want Me 2 Kill Him?). Fincher, Joshua Donen (Gone Girl, The Quick and the Dead), Charlize Theron (Girlboss, Hatfields & McCoys) and Cean Chaffin (Gone Girl, Fight Club) are executive producers.

Mindhunter premieres on Netflix October 13.
