“Men in general run around telling everyone ‘only men are funny.’ Comedy is fueled by disappointment and humiliation. Now who the hell does that describe more than women?”

Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) continues to deliver standup that rings true today when The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel returns for its sophomore season on Amazon Prime Video.

“I want to be big. The biggest thing out there,” she says in the trailer.

This next chapter finds her climb up the comedy ladder more challenging than ever after her triumph in the Gaslight, while the fallout from her takedown of Sophie Lennon (Jane Lynch) looms large, according to Amazon. As the actual grind of being a comic begins to take its toll on Midge, the pressure to come clean to her family weighs on her – especially as her choices have a ripple effect on everyone around her.

“I want to be successful,” she says. “But I haven’t told my friends, or my parents.”

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel scored eight Emmy wins this year, including best comedy, Brosnahan for comedy actress Alex Borstein for supporting comedy actress, and Amy Sherman-Palladino for comedy writing and directing. She also executive produces alongside Daniel Palladino.

The series also stars Tony Shalhoub, Marin Hinkle, Michael Zegen and Kevin Pollak.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel returns December 5 on Amazon.
