Netflix released a first trailer for a Lady Dynamite, a new series starring comedian and actress Maria Bamford.

“This is the true story of a woman who loses - and then finds - her shit,” Netflix says.

The 12 half-hour episodes are a based on what Bamford has accepted to be “her life.” It’s a semi-autobiographical, semi-surreal truthful look at her high and lows as an actor on the rise, during her hospitalization for bipolar disorder, and through her present life in Los Angeles, where she’s reached a middle ground and found love.

Bamford is well known for her stand-up comedy, and has been publicly open about her battles with depression, bipolar disorder and therapy. She’s also a voice actor on cartoons WorldGirl and Adventure Time, and appeared in the fourth season of Arrested Development.

Lady Dynamite is created by Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz, and seems to have a similar, quirky feel.

Lady Dynamite premieres May 20 on Netflix.
