​The surge in original dramas, Emmy category fixes, and the need for a new audience measurement standard.

Those are three of the topics that 23 network executives would want to discuss if they were all corralled into the same room.

The Hollywood Reporter got close to doing just that over the weekend as they unveiled the latest in a regular series of feature articles that take the pulse of the most powerful names in television.

Among the trends they’d like to see die: straight-to-series orders, shows based on comic books, and the emphasis on the 18-49 demo.

Amazon making Transparent, WBEZ making “Serial”, and ABC handing Thursdays over to Shonda make the list of “move by a competitor that most impressed me.”

As for the shows they can’t miss: aside from the normal critical darlings, The Bachelor, The Mindy Project, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine all made the list.

Brief Take: It’s always good to get a snapshot of the conventional wisdom among the folks at the very top of the industry. This most recent survey shows that, just like the rest of us, network executives are looking forward to removing some of the chaos and disruption from and industry that has seen far too much of both in recent years.
