“Whenever I stay at a White Lotus, I always have a memorable time, always,” says Emmy-winner Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya McQuoid-Hunt in the official season-two trailer for HBO’s Emmy-winner The White Lotus.

At her last stay at a White Lotus in Maui, she met the man who would become her husband, Greg Hunt (Jon Gries, Real Genius, Napoleon Dynamite) and put her cremated mother to rest in the ocean after several days of hysterics over the death.

So using the word “memorable” in this context might not be as positive as it sounds. As season one of The White Lotus established, a beautiful setting can hide some less-than-attractive behavior.

As the other guests arrive, conflicts immediately arise. Grandfather Bert diGrasso (F. Murray Abraham, Amadeus), father Dominic (Michael Imperioli, The Sopranos) and son Albi (Adam DiMarco) are on vacation together, although the women of the family declined the invitation to the exclusive resort, because, as Albi says, “they all hate you,” although whether Bert or Dominic is the subject of their ire is unclear. Both men are womanizers and Dominic is taking full advantage of his vacation to pursue some side activities.

Another couple, Ethan (Will Sharpe) and Harper Spiller (Aubrey Plaza, Parks and Recreation, Legion) find themselves newly wealthy after Ethan sold his company. They are vacationing with Ethan’s rich college roommate Cameron Babcock (Theo James, The Time Traveler’s Wife) and his wife, Daphne (Meghann Fahy). While Cameron is there to have a good time with his college pal, Harper is suspicious and perhaps, rightfully so.

The White Lotus – which won 10 Emmys in September, including outstanding limited series – is executive produced by Mike White, who also created the series as well as writes and directs. David Bernad and Mark Kamine also executive produce. It also stars Beatrice Grannò, Tom Hollander, Sabrina Impacciatore, Haley Lu Richardson, Simona Tabasco, and Leo Wood.

The seven-episode series returns Sunday, October 30 to HBO and HBO Max.
