Dish’s Hopper is gaining steam and bringing social content into the mix. Its new app for the Hopper, Social, shows subscribers Facebook and Twitter conversations surrounding the program they’re watching. Along with the Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR, users can simultaneously watch their favorite television show and see social updates and Facebook posts related to it at the same time on the same screen.

Three new features make this possible: “Now Watching” shows the Twitter stream according to the show the user has playing; “My Twitter” allows the subscriber to send tweets out from their Twitter feed to become part of that social conversation; and “My Facebook” lets the user post Facebook updates while watching the show. Social also brings up social data onscreen for that particular programming, like where other people are tweeting about that show and their statistics.

It allows the viewer to do everything they’re most likely already doing, but from all on one place instead of several phones and laptops.
