“I always thought the devil was just a metaphor. God help me I did.”

Hulu’s full trailer for Castle Rock, from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams, makes it clear that’s certainly not the case in the fictional town from the horror author’s multiverse.

The story will tell “an epic saga of darkness and light, played out in a few square miles of Maine woodland,” says Hulu.

The psychological series weaves together characters and settings from King’s past works, including Cujo, Shawshank Redemption, Carrie and star Sissy Spacek, and It’s Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård).

Castle Rock also stars André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn.

Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason developed the project for television and serve as executive producers along with Abrams, Ben Stephenson and Liz Glotzer. It is from Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Castle Rock premieres July 25 with the first three episodes launching on Hulu.
