“Don’t confuse drama with reality; it’s very dangerous,” says talented young actress Charlie (Florence Pugh, Lady Macbeth) in AMC’s upcoming six-part miniseries The Little Drummer Girl.

In what the network describes as weaving “an explosive story of espionage and international intrigue; of love and betrayal,” Charlie strikes up an acquaintance with an intriguing stranger while on vacation in Greece, but it soon becomes apparent that his intentions are far from romantic. The man is Becker (Alexander Skarsgård, Big Little Lies), an Israeli intelligence officer, who entangles her in a complex and high stakes plot orchestrated by Spymaster, Kurtz (Michael Shannon, The Shape of Water).

From the executive producers of The Night Manager, the series is set in the 1970s, yet sharply contemporary, says AMC. It also marks the television directorial debut of filmmaker Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, The Handmaiden, Stoker).

The series is based on John le Carré’s novel of the same name and is produced by The Ink Factory in partnership with BBC One and AMC.

The Little Drummer Girl will premiere as a three-night television event, with the first two-hour episodes debuting November 19 at 9 p.m., followed by additional two-hour episodes on November 20 and 21 at 9 p.m.
