Aimed at not-quite-caught-up fans with no time to binge—or simply those who are sick of hearing people ponder who Negan kills and want to see what the fuss is all about—AMC plans to air a two hour Walking Dead retrospective to bring viewers up to speed on the show so far.
The Walking Dead: The Journey So Far will look at events that led to the seventh season, and will include remembrances of lost characters, a recap of the series, and interviews with cast members and showrunners.
Airing a week before the premiere, the retrospective will potentially draw new and occasional viewers, giving them chance to get caught up ahead of a new season for the long-running show, while providing content for hardcore fans.
The special “gives viewers who have never seen an episode of The Walking Dead a chance to get all caught up on the plot, characters, locations, and unique terminology of the series,” AMC said in a press release, “as well as providing fans who’ve never missed a moment with fresh interviews with the series’ producers and their favorite actors as part of an exciting refresher course that will further whet their appetites for the new season.”
While AMC has kept whoever is on the receiving end of Negan’s barbed wire bat under wraps, the network has said the first half of season seven “sees the group fractured, broken, bereaved, and picking up the pieces…brutally convincing them to live under his rules with a deadly and horrific example of what happens if they don’t.”
