“I chose to stop being a surgeon. You know, I used to open people up,” Ben Warren (Jason George) tells a group of unimpressed Seattle firefighters in ABC’s promo for Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Station 19.
The 10-episode series follows Warren in his new career at a firehouse just blocks away from Sloan Memorial Hospital. From the captain to the newest recruit, the show revolves around the men and women as they risk their lives and hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock.
Jaina Lee Ortiz also stars as strong female lead Andy Herrera, along with Jay Hayden, Alberto Frezza, Grey Damon, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre and Miguel Sandoval.
The promo, which debuted during Grey’s Anatomy also features Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey.
Stacy McKee, executive producer and showrunner, told The Hollywood Reporter there would be “a lot of potential for cross-pollination” between the two shows.
She also told reporters in January at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that like Grey’s, Station 19 will pull inspiration from real life events, and will strike a similarity “in tone and humor and heart,” with more adrenaline-driven action sequences.
Betsy Beers also executive produces, and the series Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland.
Station 19 premieres Thursday, March 22, at 9 p.m., and joins ABC’s TGIT lineup.
