Redbox Instant, the latest in a long line of breakout streaming services, has announced that like Hulu and Netflix, they too have a plan to develop original content. CEO Shawn Strickland, speaking at “Advertising Age’s” digital conference in New York, pointed to the development as an inevitability for any streaming venture. He also pointed out that each company is most successful when launching original programming most poignant to its audience, and Redbox’s main audience likes family-friendly content, so that is where he expects they’ll go (no Kevin Spacey or “Hemlock Grove”-type shows for Redbox).
