Twenty years after the high profile unsolved murder of 6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, CBS released the first trailer for an upcoming docuseries that attempts to solve the case once and for all.

The 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant was found dead in parents’ basement in Boulder, Colo. on December 26, 1996. Her parents John and Patsy were suspects in the case, but were cleared in 2008 based on the results of DNA tests. Patsy died in 2006 at age 49 from ovarian cancer.

The six-hour limited event program brings together original investigators with new experts, including former New Scotland Yard criminal behavioral analyst Laura Richards and retired FBI supervisory special agent and statement analyst Stan Burke.

Those featured who were on the case from the start include former New York City prosecutor, retired FBI supervisory special agent and profiler Jim Clemente; world-renowned forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee; former chief investigator for the District Attorney in Boulder, Colo., James Kolar; leading forensic pathologist Dr. Werner Spitz; and retired FBI supervisory special agent and forensic linguistic profiler James Fitzgerald.

“This little girl’s homicide to this date has not been resolved,” Fitzgerald says in the trailer. “In my opinion, I think we can change that right now.”

The team re-examines evidence using advanced technology and forensics that weren’t available in 1996, recreates the crime scene by rebuilding a full-scale replica of the key rooms in the Ramsey house, and introduces new theories while also conducting interviews with new witnesses, including a 911 operator who never testified.

The Case Of: JonBenét Ramsey launches in three parts with a two-hour premiere on Sunday, September 18 at 8:30 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT followed by episodes on Monday, September 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, and Sunday, September 25 at 8:30 ET/PT on CBS.

The docuseries is produced by Critical Content. Tom Forman and Eddie Schmidt serve as executive producers.
